Penn State Community Survey

Tips for Dashboard Navigation

The Community Survey Dashboards, located at https://opair.psu.edu/community-survey/, are categorized by six content areas: Belonging and Inclusion; Engagement Across Difference; Experiences with Stereotyping, Microaggressions, and Harassment; Cultural Competence & Knowledge; Institutional Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Off-Campus Community Contexts. Each dashboard features survey questions related to one of these content areas.

Primary Navigation

1. Survey Questions.
Below every dashboard there is a link labeled “Survey Questions” which takes you to a page where all the survey questions in each content area are listed.

2. Side-by-side Comparison Views.
Clicking the buttons at the top enable side-by-side comparison views by category for each item. On the right, you can see the side-by-side comparison by role for the satisfaction with overall campus climate.

3. Filters.
There are seven options to filter the results to specific populations of interest. You can quickly expand collapsed categories by either 1) right-clicking on them and clicking “Expand” or 2) left-clicking on the down arrow to the left of the category. The Campus Group and Unit section also has a Search functionality so that you can quickly navigate to a unit of interest. You can make multiple selections in any category of your choosing by holding CTRL when selecting. When you click the Reset Filters button, located underneath the filters, this will clear all selections made and revert to the total University view.

4. Response Count.
To protect respondents’ privacy, counts of respondents by question have been suppressed, so the dashboards will only show percentage of the group (based on selections made by the user). To get an idea of the composition of responses, a Response Count link is available at the bottom of every dashboard containing information on the responses by the different filter views available.

5. User Guide.
This link takes you to the current page and provides information on how the dashboards can be used. This link is available at the bottom of every dashboard.

Suppression

As described in detail in the Data Presentation section of the Community Survey report, the suppression threshold of n<20 is in place for all dashboards, but the dashboards allow the user to multi-select individual groups that are smaller than 20 but that when summed together, exceed 20 (e.g., Schreyer Honors College + the University Budget Office + the Office of Information Security, + Government and Community Relations).
