Academic Analytics

Overview

Academic Analytics is an online subscription-based database that contains publicly available scholarly data of tenure-line faculty members at over 400 US-based research universities. Approved users at Penn State University can access the “Benchmarking,” “Analysis on Demand,” and “Research Insight,” tools with varying levels of access depending on the role.

Benchmarking

The Benchmarking tool focuses on metrics that are consistently defined across the academic field, such as journal articles, citations, conference proceedings, most federal grants, and honorific awards. The metrics contains point-in-time data from the previous academic year.

Analysis on Demand

The Analysis On Demand tool provides a repository of interactive, on-the-fly custom reports, many of which are filterable at the college and department levels. These reports are updated biannually.

Research Insight

The Research Insight tool captures the same metrics as the Benchmarking tool, but also includes patents, clinical trials, and book chapters. These data are matched to scholars on a weekly basis.
