Yuanhong Zhu

DATA SCIENTIST

Yuanhong Zhu joined the Office of Planning, Assessment, and Institutional Research (OPAIR) in 2019. Formerly a Data and Reporting Analyst within OPAIR, he currently serves as a Data Scientist with the team.

As a Data and Reporting Analyst, Zhu was responsible for internal and external reporting and analysis of student and HR data. In his current Data Scientist role, his responsibilities include student enrollment and admission data extraction, wrangling, and analysis from SQL servers and other data sources; enrollment prediction modeling; student retention machine learning model creation in the Microsoft Azure environment; and student population diversity analysis.

Prior to joining OPAIR, Zhu worked for the Graduate School at Penn State for two years. From 2002 to 2017, he was a Research Associate and Database Specialist in the Penn State Land Analysis Laboratory within the College of Agricultural Sciences. There he performed a variety of duties, from SQL server database administration, creating databases, and programming stored procedures, to developing web applications and performing research activities in geospatial land use modeling and imagery analysis.

Zhu has over 15 years of experience in processing diverse data using SQL and other programming languages. He holds a Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering and a Ph.D. in Soil Science, both from Penn State.
