Access Levels and Credentialing

Access to Academic Analytics tools is available to approved users who have been through the credentialing process described below.

There are different levels of access available:

Senior Academic and Administrative Leaders

or their designees, (President, Provost, Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, Office of Planning, Assessment and Institutional Research, and the Vice President for Research), whose work necessitates it can receive access to institution-wide data. Users at this level may designate one proxy, such as a senior administrator or analyst in their unit to receive access.

Deans and Associate Deans of Colleges and Schools and Institute Directors

can receive access to data relevant to the areas they oversee. In some cases, particularly with institutes or area studies units, there is no benchmarking data. In these cases, users may still obtain access to Research Insights. Users at this level may designate one proxy, such as a senior administrator or analyst in their unit to receive access.

Department Chairs and Campus CAO/DAA and Chancellors

can receive access to data relevant to the areas they oversee. In some cases, particularly with programs or area studies units, there is no benchmarking data. In these cases, the Directors may still obtain access to Research Insights. Users at this level may designate one proxy, such as a senior administrator or analyst in their unit to receive access.

Individual faculty members are able to request a copy of their individual data for review from a designated credentialed user within their unit. Any errors that may have arisen during data aggregation can be submitted to Academic Analytics by credentialed users for correction.

Credentialing Process

  • Requests can be sent to AAnalyticSupport@psu.edu
  • All requests must be approved by the Office of Faculty Affairs and the Office of Planning, Assessment, and Institutional Research (OPAIR). This verification process includes unit-level approval.
  • Approved users will then receive an electronic copy of Use and Conduct Agreement to review and sign.
  • Once a Use and Conduct agreement has been submitted, Academic Analytics will reach out directly to new users with a welcome email, including instructions on how to access and complete new user training.
  • Upon completion of the new user training, new users will be required to read and acknowledge Academic Analytics’ confidentiality statement.

Once all steps of the credentialing process are completed as outlined above, a user’s Academic Analytics portal access will be activated, allowing them to log into the portal link provided in the welcome email using their Penn State username and password.
