2020 Learning Outcomes Assessment Forum

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Monica Stitt-Bergh

Dr. Monica Stitt-Bergh is an educational psychologist and specialist in the Assessment Office at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her specialization is in assessing written communication. In her current position, she is an internal consultant for and offers workshops on learning assessment, and she plans and conducts institutional assessment projects. She has spent the last ten years working to create a positive view of assessment and increase use of assessment findings. Previously, she assisted with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s writing-across-the-curriculum program and implementation of a new general education program. Her classroom experience includes teaching courses on writing as well as social science research methods. Dr. Stitt-Bergh has published and given conference presentations on learning outcomes assessment in higher education, writing program evaluation, self-assessment, and writing-across-the-curriculum. She is also a former president of the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education and the Hawai‘i-Pacific Evaluation Association. She holds a BA in English (University of Michigan), an MA in Composition and Rhetoric and PhD in Educational Psychology (University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa).

Prior Forums

The first Assessment Forum was held on Tuesday, November 6th, 2018 at the Nittany Lion Inn at University Park. The program included a keynote presentation titled “Digging Deeper: Exploring Strategies to Expand Current Assessment Practices” by Gianina Taylor Baker, Assistant Director at the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment. Two interactive panel sessions, one for graduate programs and one for undergraduate programs, included presentations by assessment leaders at Penn State who have used innovative strategies for assessment. The program ended with lunch and remarks by Provost Jones. The forum was attended by approximately 100 people in person, with additional attendees viewing the keynote presentation and/or one of the panel presentations remotely. Recordings of the keynote and panel sessions will also be made available on our website within the week.
